Progress in Paint
24 September @ 10:00 - 5 November @ 12:00
£140.00

A seven week course running on Thursday mornings from 10am until noon, from 24th September 2026 until 5th November 2026.
This course is for those who have already done a bit, are no longer a beginner and would like to move on in their painting. The focus will be landscape and the medium will be acrylics. Acrylics are ideal because they are vibrant like oils, dry like watercolour and are more forgiving than either!
Course structure:
- Week1 – Refreshing the basics. Brush and palette knife techniques; the roles of value and temperature; colour-mixing. How we use all of these to convey perspective in a painting
- Week 2 – Figures in a landscape. Human proportions; conveying movement and crowds; figures in perspective
- Week 3 – Trees. Focus on a single element of a landscape. Shapes, textures, colours
- Week 4 – Skies. Focus on another element of landscape. Textures; clouds; colours
- Week 5 – Water. Focus on a third element of landscape. Textures; movement; reflection
- Week 6 – Preparation for landscape painting. Sketching and small paint studies of an actual landscape. Ideally this will be from life but photos if necessary
- Week 7 – Completion of landscape painting. Using all prepared material to paint a finished landscape
